To all the author's who write novellas the bar has been raised and you can thank Sabrina York for that. It's so hard to make a short story into something that I am thrilled to say "I'm glad I read that book!". Fierce did that for me and so much more.

Fierce is a welcome addition to Decadent Publishing's 1NS series. I've not read any others in this series, so I can say for absolute sure that you will not suffer for not having read this book alone. Although, if the other books are as good as this one we are definitely missing out!

Katie has sworn off men after the 10 years she spent in a marriage that did little more than frustrate her and rip her self esteem to shreds. That's why her friend thinks it's such a good idea to submit an application on Katie's behalf to Madame Eve. Knowing Katie would never go for it on her own, her best friend lures her to a bar in Las Vegas and breaks the news to her that her "match" Sebastian will be meeting her shortly.

What follows is a short story filled with enough heat and personality to fill a full length novel. Sebastian was everything a woman could want to get her back into the world of dating. He's hot, sweet, funny and knows his way around a woman's body. It helps even more that he carries the same scars that Katie does. You can actually feel the connection this couple has and never feel like the relationship and feelings were rushed.

I highly recommend this book and sincerely beg Ms. York to write more like it.

I have always love Alice in Wonderland so when I saw this book I had to have it. I will admit I had high expectations but it didn’t disappoint at all. 

Hatter is nuts like always but it is so endearing. The riddles and the ramblings were very hatter-esque and not over done. He did have a bit of a bite but after going through hundreds of Alices but it wouldn’t feel real if he wasn’t a bitter. Once he gave Alice a chance they connected on so many levels.

Alice was caring and very inventive. I loved her shop and the cupcake ideas were so cute. I felt a bit sorry for her because Hatter wasn’t the prince charming she imagined at first. He was a bit of an ass. She did preserve until he let her. Then my heart dropped when she left because they thought Wonderland didn’t want her. But the ending was beautifully done.

This is a great redo of an old classic. Sometimes the new take on an old favorite can leave a bad taste in your mouth but not in this case. It was refreshing and pulled me right in. I really loved Danika because she didn’t go for the “normal” fairy godmother pupils. She wanted the bad boys right from the start and that was such a unique twist. I loved it and I can’t wait to start the rest of the series. Marie Hall you made a fan for life!

I love Mia Downing!! Her books are amazing. Lethal Limits is book 2 in her series Spy Games and I loved it. I wondered how Jake was going to find love after the novella and this blew my expectations out of the water. 

Jake is a spy who thinks he is in love with his best friend/ boss’s wife. Normally that is just bad but it gets worse because he was their third. Oh and there is the part where Chase is a god at sniping and he could kill him in a crowded room. To get his head on straight he goes home but there is a catch. Chase suspects something and makes him take his new partner Tia. Jake is a liar and charming which are perfect for spies but it makes it hard to make someone believe you. I like Jake but I think he should be a bit less impulsive. 

Tia is tough and needs to be hurt otherwise she is numb. She pushes for all of Jake and once he gives it she wants to run away. She is good spy but her self esteem is extremely low. Her low part of her life almost caused her death because she was reckless and dangerous. That part of her is gone but she never could deal with why she went there.

Their journey is a bit bumpy and they have their issues but I cheered for them the whole time. Together they work through both of their problems and become whole again. I love a book that invokes a personal response from and this book did it on numerous accounts. I loved Tia and Jake. They weren’t perfect and made mistakes but it made them all the more real.

If you are into spy novels then I suggest you look up Mia Downing because she rocks!!

This is the 10th installment in Cole's Immortals After Dark series. It is about Carrow Graie, a.k.a. Carrow the Incarcerated, a mercenary of the Wiccae, and Malkom Slaine, leader of the Trothan rebellion.

This book set a new "stage" in the IAD world as well giving us a good look at a new species within the Lore world. One that was though a myth. The Scabara, or otherwise known as a vemon, were demons poisoned by vampire blood and thought of as abominations by most of the Lore. We as readers knew that they were not a myth because we saw one in A Hunger Like No Other but other than that, Malkom is the first one that we've met.

The stage that the first 9 books in the IAD series was built on stemmed from the platform that was built in the first 2 books. We knew that the Accession was near. We knew about a number of Valkyrie, Vampires, Demons and Lykae. However, the list of characters these previous 9 books had introduced us to had grown short. I also think that Kresley was afraid that she was getting too repetitive so she thought up a new angle and delivered the Order to us in the epilogue of PoaDP. Whereas books 2 - 9 all happened within the same year we needed to move on so now we find that this mysterious Order is after the different species and factions of the Lore. From that epilogue came 3 new stories. DftD is the first of the 3 that Kresley has gifted us.

OK, so as I said earlier we now have this Order coming after our favorite Loreans. The Order has been around for ages and their mission is to keep the Lore world a secret from the mortal world. It's a multinational mortal operation created to study-and exterminate-nonhumans. They've noticed that the Lore world has become frisky due to the Accession and they are scrambling to keep things under control. They grabbed Carrow in one of their retrieval missions and she is a prisoner in the Immortal Internment Compound. All the immortal prisoners wore collars, or torques, that nullified their powers. Carrow was told that she would be released if she managed to get Malkom off the demon plain Oblivian, home to the Trothan Demons, and back to the Compound. Being that Malkom was a vemon of course the Order wanted him. Vemons were supposed to be a myth and to capture one would be a great accomplishment. So off Carrow goes to try to lure Malkom in, her torque turned off so she could have some power.

I didn't think that I was going to like this book as much as I did. I'm not a major Demon fan. Malkom however, is a different story. He's uber smexy and total yumminess! From the very start he did his best to please and win over Carrow. He faced his fears for her. That was a major turn on.

There's lots of other reasons to love this book but it would take me forever to talk about them. Let me just leave you with this... READ IT!!!!

Oh! And I LOVE how KC is always throwing random pop culture references into her books. They're always good for a giggle.

FINALLY we find out what happened to Lucia. We meet her in A Hunger Like No Other but then she seems to disappear in the other books. Now we know why. I've said it before and I will say it again, I love how the books in this series are so intertwined. It's like looking at the same thing but from different angles and perspectives. Though this sounds annoying and repetitive it's not for me and I really enjoy it. I loved seeing the scenes that we saw in A Hunger Like No Other from Garreth's view. And oh my, Garreth. My favorite IAD boy. Though truthfully I have a thing for all the Lykae!

Random things that I smiled at...

"Well, then, Lousha the Huntress" - a roguish grin curled his lips - "you've snared me." ~Can you say corny?

Garreth trying to hide his chuckle when she first tried to "make a fist" around him. ~~Such a male thing.

Captain Travis's defensive response to Lucia calling his ship a boat. "...as if she'd told him, 'Your penis: I find it minuscule.'"

Regin's crazy texting.

Nix as always makes me laugh. Loved her shout out to Bon Jovi. "Shots to the heart, and your to blame."

Lucia Incantata ~you got to love it when the man after your heart names a butterfly after you. Plus I'm a butterfly freak.

Audiobook Review

Wow oh wow! Night Embrace totally rocked! This book was absolutely fabulous and I have nothing negative to say about it.

First let's talk about Talon. Or Speirr if you want to go by is birth name. And let me tell you, from what the book said he's got quite a spear if you know what I'm saying. Even as a boy Talon was very fierce. As a Dark-hunter he is even more so. Fierce and beautifully brutal in battle. Yet, in his heart he was such a poet. He had some beautifully seductive words to say to Sunshine.

“I’ve always been a firm believer in seizing the moment. In taking what I want when I want it. And right now, Sunshine, I want you. I want to taste every inch of your body. To feel your breath on my neck while I make love to you. To take my tongue and explore every part of you until you beg me to stop.”

And speaking of Sunshine can I just say what a vibrant character she was? As an artist she totally appealed to me. Even her flightiness was something that endeared her to me. She was cute, funny, loyal, inquisitive, had a good heart (as shown by her actions toward the Dark-Hunter Zarek) and stuck to her guns. I love how she hacked away at Talon's resolve trying to get him to open up.

“What’s this?” “Until you come clean with me, you can take the sofa.” “You’re kidding.” “Oh no. Not even a little. I’m not going to let you back into my bed until you let me inside your head.”

There were tons of supporting characters in the book. Among them, of course, was the ever present Acheron. He took up more page time in Night Embrace than he did in Night Pleasures and I really enjoyed the deepening of his storyline. We also saw some of Valerius, the grandson and namesake of one of the villains from Night Pleasures. When he came into the picture I yelled at the book. Kyrian and Julian weren't too happy to see him either as you can imagine. There was also the afore mentioned Zarek. I couldn't help but feel for him. His last scene in the book took me by surprise. Another person that made her regular appearance was Selena.

The sex was frequent and hot. Talon and Sunshine worked amazing well together. The connection between them was soul deep. Sometimes authors have a hard time making me believe that the hero and heroine truly belong together. Not so for these two. Kenyon did a perfect job with their relationship. It was very easy to feel the bond between them.

The world building in this book wasn't as intricate as it was in the last book which I was thankful for. I think it helped that I read Night Pleasures before Night Embrace however Night Embrace can stand alone.

Brilliant world building? Check. Awesome and intriguing characters? Check. Sexy hero? Check. Steamy sex scenes? Check. This book has it all so find a copy of it somewhere and READ IT!

I was in the mood for bad boy bikers and cruising Amazon for something like that. I saw Own the Wind and thought ‘what the hell’ and I bought it….. Holy shit what a book! Just freaking amazing!! Once I started I couldn’t put it down.

Tabby was a badass and she was not afraid of standing up for herself which I love in a heroine. She rebelled then got that horrible and dickhead scared straight showing and buckled down. I literally had tears running down my face when I read that her fiancée died. She kind of stopped functioning and was a empty shell until Shy helped her find herself again. I liked that she didn’t take a lot of shit from anyone and usually said what was on her mind. I was cheering for her when she told Tyra the things that needed to be said. She went through hell to show everyone she cared for her man and I did think it was a little unfair because she was an adult.

Shy was the epitome of a badass biker. He oozed off this sexiness that made him so easy to love (even when he was being an ass). He brought Tabby out of this hole and helped her actually live again. How couldn’t you love a man for that? I didn’t care for his manwhoreish-ness (yes that is a word I just made up) in the beginning but I get that it part of the life. He was loyal and fierce even when his brothers made him doubt their trust.

The plot was amazing and just kept getting better with every page. It was a brutal story told beautifully. I didn’t like that they didn’t tell anyone that they were together but after everyone freaked it made total sense. I really enjoyed all of the secondary characters and they were extremely well developed. Tack and Tyra were so in love and you could tell. I liked that Kristen Ashley hinted at who would be the second book (which I bought right after I finished this one lol).

I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who loves bad boy bikers. Sometimes they can feel like a bad version of SOA but this series is absolute genius. Trust me you will be wanting your own biker after you have finished reading it.

Joan Swan is back and better than ever with Rush, the third installment in her exceptional Phoenix Rising series!

Rush is Quaid and Jessica’s story. Two characters I wasn’t sure I would be interested in reading about since there hasn’t been much of a chance to make any kind of connection with them but believe me I couldn’t have been more wrong. Rush is by far the best, and my favorite, book out of the Phoenix Rising series so far! It’s impossible not to be captivated by the ongoing governmental conspiracy in this series and now with the revelation of Quaid and the appearance of some new players (and sudden disappearance of others) we are really getting into the thick of things!

Rush takes over where the previous book Blaze leaves off. The Castle is now in ruins, Cash has been rescued and the team finds out that there is a very real possibility that the prisoner that Cash befriended named Q is actually Quaid Legend, Jessica Fury’s deceased husband and their former team member. And in what I think is one of the highlights of Rush, Ms. Swan starts off by affording us a glimpse of Jessica and Quaid’s life, as well as the teams’, not only before but DURING that life changing warehouse fire.

So what would you do, how would you feel if suddenly you are faced with the fact that the husband you thought had died, and you have mourned for five long years, might actually be alive? Jessica Fury is suddenly smacked in the face with that realization and is given a second chance with her husband, one she thought she would never see again, only to find out the man she is with isn’t anything like her husband at all. While he resembles him physically, mentally he is nothing like the man she married. Five years spent as nothing more than a lab rat will do that do a man. Quaid has been programmed to be the ultimate fighting machine, the invincible soldier. He’s nothing like the carefree firefighter we get a glimpse of in the beginning of the book. It actually hurt to watch Jessica get Quaid back only to have her realize that she really didn’t have him back at all and the chance existed that the Quaid she knew and loved might never come back. It was like watching her lose him all over again.

But it wasn’t just Jessica who was feeling the loss of the old Quaid while trying hard to adapt to the new one. Ms. Swan does a great job of showing how the reintroduction of Quaid back into the fold emotionally affects the rest of the team as well, especially Kai who took Quaid’s death, or supposed death, exceptionally hard since it happened on his watch.

Even more heart breaking than watching what Jessica was going through was watching Quaid try to remember who he is and was and what he means to Jessica and the rest of the team. Here is a man who has spent the past five years locked in a cell being nothing more than someone’s personal science experiment and only knows himself as a letter, Q. And even though he never knew her name Quaid has spent the last five years doing nothing but dreaming of Jessica. The dream of her is what has kept him going all this time. And now that he finally gets to see her, knows that she is actually real, he finds that he has all these intense feelings but has no idea how or why he has them because he doesn’t remember himself as Quaid. You can just feel not only his anger and frustration over that but how much it hurts him each times he has to tell Jessica he doesn’t remember anything. Because you know how much he wants to remember not only for her but for himself as well.

Mystery and intrigue runs high in Rush and the reappearance of Quaid helps bring about not only some pretty interesting revelations but also some pretty interesting unsolved mysteries as well, like Trent Dare, Quaid’s partner from the Castle. With the whole team back in Rush, minus Seth who is off doing research, the quips are flying left and right! And in the middle of the team uncovering important evidence we are witness to a rare glimpse of emotion from Mitch a/k/a “Mr. Mouthy” and are then treated to a sneak peek of Shatter, Mitch’s long awaited book, at the end of Rush. And oh what a book this is going to be! Screaming women everywhere, including myself, have been begging for his story and in January we are finally going to get it!!

While the previous couples in Fever and Blaze certainly had issues to overcome nothing compares to what Jessica and Quaid have to endure in Rush. And while this couple certainly didn't get the ending I expected they got the ending that they needed and I for one can't wait to see what Ms. Swan has in store for them in the future!!
