INTERVIEW/ GIVEAWAY: Macy Beckett

Please join me in welcoming Macy Beckett the author of the amazing Sultry Springs series. 

Tina:  Please tell our followers a little about yourself. What is a typical day in the life of ‘you’?:

Macy:  I'm a former teacher who left the classroom to write hot and humorous romances for Sourcebooks and Penguin. I also write sci-fi romance for young adults (under the name Melissa Landers) for Disney-Hyperion.

Tina:  Do you have a current work in progress? If so, can you tell us a little about it?:

Macy:  Now that the Sultry Springs series is complete, I'm gearing up to launch Make You Mine, a hot, humorous romance that releases in May '14 from Penguin Random House.

Tina:  What was your inspiration for your current release?:

Macy:  I listen to a lot of country music when writing a Southern romance, and Ronnie Milsap's "There's No Gettin' Over Me" was hugely inspiring for Surrender to Sultry. Much like the song, Colt and Leah couldn't move forward in their lives because they'd never gotten over one another.

Leah McMahon is back in Sultry Springs, Texas to help her dad recover from surgery. But there's a new sheriff in town and he's none other than Colton Bea, the wild-as-weeds boy who stole her heart a decade earlier. Colt's a changed man now, and the feelings between these high school sweethearts are stronger than ever. But Leah's got a secret so devastating that he may never forgive her. Can she find a way to earn absolution and build a future with the sultry man she's loved half her life?

Tina:  Was there a character you enjoyed writing the most?:

Macy:  That would be Cara Sweeney, the heroine in my Alienated series. She gets more than she bargains for when she agrees to host the nation's first intergalactic exchange student, the devilishly alluring Aelyx from planet L'eihr. Beam me up, hottie!

Tina:  What are the best and worst aspects of being a writer?:

Macy:
The best: I can work in my bathrobe. And sometimes I do!
The worst: I go to bed each night feeling like I've given birth out of my head.

Tina:  What can we look forward to from you in the future?:

Macy:  I've been a very busy author!
Surrender to Sultry is the third (and perhaps final) novel in my Sultry Springs series, Alienated releases in Febrary and Make You Mine, the first book in the Dumont Bachelors series, launches next spring.

About the Author

Instead of a compulsive overeater, I call myself a compulsive over-reader, because my appetite for books is insatiable. While I enjoy all genres of fiction, I’m always drawn to romantic plots. There’s no substitute for a happy ending, and let’s face it: I’m in love with love!

A former military brat, I like to say I grew up everywhere. I graduated from high school in Munich (Go Mustangs!) and went on to earn a BA in English from Texas State University and a teaching license from East Carolina University. I taught middle school for nine years before “retiring” to write romance, and after residing in eleven different states, I finally abandoned my nomadic lifestyle.

Now I live in the heart of Ohio with my very patient husband—who kindly tolerates my neglect while I’m penning a new book—and our three spirited children, who aren’t so easily placated. My work is represented by the fabulous Nicole Resciniti of the Seymour Agency.

INTERVIEW: Tawny Weber

Please tell our followers a little about yourself. What is a typical day in the life of ‘you’?

I'm a homeschooling mom, so my daytime is usually focused on that. Between classes and projects, though, I try to get in a little promo here and there. I'll stop in on Facebook, visit Twitter and such. 

I'm usually working on two writing projects at once, so I'll put in a couple hours in the afternoon if I can, but the bulk of my writing is done between 10pm and 3am. There is something about those hours that really works well for me. The social networks are quiet, email is dead, and I figure while most people are sleeping, all that creative energy is just waiting to be tapped into.

What was your inspiration for your current release?:

My inspiration for FEARLESS was Cosmopolitan magazine itself. I loved the idea of writing a Cosmo Girl, and really embracing the feel and energy that they express. Some of the elements I knew would be important were the heroine's challenges on the job, that she be in shape but its something she has to work at, that she's sexually aware, and that she have a fabulous group of friends. Thats how I came up with Gia and the Girlz Guide to Gettin' It. 

It's sort of a Cosmo meets Cinderella story. Except instead of a fairy godmother, she has her Girlz. Instead of a magic wand, they have the Girlz Guide. Instead of the ball, it's Las Vegas. And instead of a glass slipper, she's wearing Giuseppe Zanottis.

Promising career: check

The best of friends: check

Sex life: MIA

Do you have a current work in progress? If so, can you tell us a little about it?

I'm currently working on A SEAL's Kiss, another of my Uniformly Hot Harlequin Blaze SEAL books. I love these SEALs! 

I'm also working on FETISH, which is the second book in the Girlz Guide series. This is Caryn's story - a very sexy revenge caper that includes bedposts, silk scarves and naughty confessions.

What has been the hardest emotionally or time consuming thing you’ve had to research for one of your stories? 

The most time consuming research I have done is in trying to find accurate, solid information on are the Navy SEALs. So much of what they do is top secret and this is not a group that is out looking for attention, so there isn't a lot of information to be had. I've talked to numerous military personnel both currently and having previously served and to a lot of Navy vets, though.

Was there a character you enjoyed writing the most?

I loved writing the heroine, Gia. She's feisty and wants to be fearless, so she pushes past her insecurities and goes after her fantasy.

But she's also smart, savvy enough to know when she's in over her head, and has incredible taste in shoes.

What authors or books have inspired you?

Nora Roberts is my absolute favorite author. Not only does she always create dynamic, layered characters but she paints the most incredible visuals through her words.

What are the best and worst aspects of being a writer?

The best is being able to work in my jammies, that the main focus of my job revolves around playing in my imagination, and hearing from readers.

The worst is marketing and promotion. More and more of that falls to the author, most of whom, by nature, are pretty quiet and retiring. Its not a skillset that comes naturally to me and is always a challenge.

What can we look forward to from you in the future?

After FEARLESS release, there will be two more Cosmo Red Hot Read Girlz Guide books.

And in December I'll have another Harlequin Blaze, NAUGHTY CHRISTMAS NIGHTS hitting the shelves, with two more quickly following in February and April - A SEAL's Salvation and A SEAL's Kiss.
