Fishy films???

I had to laugh at a collection of somewhat modified film names and posters produced by the Fishfinger Creative Agency.  Here are a few examples.

There are many more at the link.  Funny, and definitely creative!

And if the brakes failed?

This is a gutsy demonstration of the braking power of the Leopard 2 tank . . . but it leaves me speechless at the thought of the possible consequences if anything had gone wrong.

That bear again . . .

Some of you will remember this well-known Australian commercial for John West salmon.

Courtesy of an e-mail from J. B., I learned there was a follow-up.

Intrigued, I checked on YouTube, and yes - there's a third.

When they see these, I think Miss D. and Rev. Paul will be making dark (and rather rude) noises about what's likely to happen to anyone fool enough to really try to get between an Alaskan brown bear and its salmon dinner . . . but they're still cute!

Outstanding!

This British advertisement for Schwartz Flavor Shots is all sorts of fun.  The introduction tells us:

What does flavour look like? How does it sound? These are the questions that inspired herb and spice experts, Schwartz, to create what they describe as a ‘Sonic flavourscape'.

Several tons of black peppercorns, cardamom, turmeric, paprika, cumin seeds, ginger, chilli and coriander were rigged to explode in perfect sync with a bespoke musical composition. Each explosion represents an individual piano note or chord, which when filmed at high speed, creates a surreal three dimensional sound scape.

Here's the video.  Watch it in full-screen mode for the best effect.

And here's how it was made.

I find that simply amazing, both visually and creatively. Congratulations to everyone involved in making it.

One heck of an advertisement!

This is funny, original, ingenious - and involves vintage warbirds!  What's not to like?  Be sure to watch it in full-screen mode.

Thanks to reader B. V. for sending me the link.

Pajama Boy 'comes out'

I'm sure many readers are familiar by now with the hilarity generated by the Obama administration's effort to spread the word about Obamacare with this Twitter advertisement.

Both liberals and conservatives immediately had a collective attack of hysterical laughter.  I've seldom seen so much lampoonery (if that's a word) of an ad campaign.  For a few examples, see Newsmax, Truth Revolt and Powerline.

The model in the ad has been identified as Ethan Krupp.  Unfortunately for Obamacare, his views are so stereotypically moonbattish that he might be a poster child for all that's wrong with the present Administration, let alone its policies on health care.  I'm not going to quote him directly, due to profanity, but you can read the whole thing here.  It explains a lot.

My next question:  how can the Obamacare promoters recover from this colossal public relations blunder?  I'm sure they're going to try.  I look forward with eager anticipation to their next inspired (?) effort.

Advertisement of the year?

Now that 2013's almost over, what was (or were) your favorite advertisement(s) over the past 12 months?  Let us know your candidates in Comments, along with a link where we can see them.

I'll start off with this one from Australia - which caused some controversy when it was 'erected' in June.

An advertisement showing a cartoon wallaby having sex with a lion has caused a stir in Australia ahead of this weekend’s Lions test match.

The 15,030 square-metre [161,782 square feet] Sportsbet advert features a winking kangaroo hunched over the back of a lion and is spread across a field visible to passengers flying in and out of Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport.

Bearing the slogan “Rooting for the Wallabies”, the explicit sign was criticised by public figures including Matthew Guy, the Victorian minister for planning, who promised to have the advert “ploughed in before the end of the day” today. He said the sign was placed on Parks Victoria land without any permission.

. . .

A spokesman for Sportsbet defended the advert, which aimed to increase betting sales ahead of the match this weekend, saying it would be viewed by more than a million people flying over the image in the next month.

"What better way to get behind the Wallabies than to create a massive wallaby getting behind a lion?," Sportsbet’s Haydn Lane told Australia’s Channel Nine.

There's more at the link.  Here's the advert.  Watch it in full-screen mode to get the best effect.

Trust the Aussies to find a way to 'take the p***' out of their sporting visitors . . .

About those Amazon.com drone deliveries . . .

. . . I've thoroughly enjoyed the news reports and media fuss about them.  I don't believe for a moment that it's a real product:  instead, I think it was a great idea to get maximum publicity for Amazon.com's online shopping service the day before Cyber Monday.  Here's Amazon's publicity video for the announcement.

Now Waterstones, a major UK book retailer, has come up with its response to Amazon.com.  In the light of the Harry Potter books, is it any wonder that it's an owl delivery service?

Next thing you know, the Animal Liberation Front (which appears to have no sense of humor at all) will be targeting Waterstones . . .

OK, that's impressive!

24-year-old graphic design student Decio Lourenco of Cape Town, South Africa, hit the headlines earlier this year when he rode his skateboard down Kloof Nek Road in Cape Town at insanely high speeds - at one point hitting 68 mph and triggering a speed camera. I know that road very well, having driven it umpteen times over many years, so I can only doff my hat to the courage - or foolhardiness - of anyone prepared to tackle its steep slopes and tight turns on a skateboard.  I recommend watching the video in full-screen mode.

Mercedes-Benz South Africa decided to make use of his skills, and the publicity surrounding them, by recruiting him for an advertisement highlighting the performance of their sporty A45 AMG model.  They took Decio and the car to the Franschhoek Pass, another South African road I know very well.  Over three days camera crews filmed the skateboarder and the car chasing each other down the pass, producing this extended advertisement that I find very attractive as a piece of 'performance art'.  Again, full-screen mode is recommended.

Kudos to Decio Lourenco for his amazing skills, and to Mercedes-Benz South Africa for having had the sense to see an opportunity like this and make the most of it.

I'm going to have to spend some money here

I've never shopped at a Food City store;  but after watching this advertisement, I'm going to have to find the nearest one and buy a week's groceries there, as a 'Thank You' to them for making it.

I've never forgotten coming home to see my late father after my first operational 'experience'.  He was a veteran of World War II - I've written about him before.  It was quite a reunion . . . one I recalled vividly (and with a tear in my eye) after watching this.

Not a bad idea!

I'm intrigued by Canadian brewer Molson's new advertising campaign - not in Canada, but in Europe.

I have to admit, that's pretty original - but how are they going to prevent underage drinkers from getting their hands on the beer?
