BOOK SPOTLIGHT/ EXCERPT: The Color Pink by Parker Paige

The Color Pink

The Blurb

Can wearing the color pink attract true love?

That is the question Summer Jones intends to answer.

In her early thirties, Summer Jones thought that she had found the perfect man, the man she planned to marry until she learned that he still had feelings for his first love. Now, at age thirty-five, Summer is ready to fall in love again. After she hears that wearing the color pink can attract true love, she sets out to do just that--and attracts more than just true love.

Follow Summer as she journeys into the world of color magic and find out how she uses that magic to help her choose between one man from her past and another man who is destined to become her future.

This romantic drama serves up something fun and sexy, proving that the road to love can be paved with many painful lessons and memorable moments. It’s a story about paying attention to your past so that you don’t always have to repeat it.

I should know better. There is no way Sarah Jane is going to allow me to skip out on a birthday celebration for any reason. Without an inkling of joy in my soul, I stare at the water glass before me.
“             “You know, you could be a little more enthusiastic,” Sarah Jane says. ““It is your birthday.”  “
“And no boyfriend.”  “
“So what, you don’t have a boyfriend. You have me.”   “
“Sarah Jane, as much as I love you, it’s not the same thing.”  “
“Do you know how many birthdays have come and gone when I didn’t have anyone special in my life?”  “
“Of course, it’s easy for you to say this now because you have someone,” I say.   “
“And you will too. You just have to have faith.” Sarah Jane leans back in her chair. ““Do you ever hear from him?” “
“Who?”  “
“Who do you think? John?” “
“No, and I don’t expect to either.”  “
“Who are you kidding? You know you’re hoping that the two of you will get back together.”
““Get back together? With him? I might be crazy, but I’m not insane.”  Though there may be a tad bit of truth to what Sarah Jane suggests, my reunion with John is definitely not something I am banking on.
Sarah Jane begins scanning through her iPhone. ““I have to find someone for you to have sex with.”
My mouth drops open. ““Excuse me?”

BOOK SPOTLIGHT/ EXCERPT/ GIVEAWAY: Snowbound With The Soldier by Jennifer Faye

Snowbound with the Soldier

Book Blurb

Maybe this Christmas…?

It has been seven long years since Kara Jameson last saw Jason Greene. Returning home as a wounded war hero, Jason looks a shell of the man she once knew. Yet her heart still skips a beat as if it was yesterday….

Stepping back into civilian life, Jason looks to Kara for help. But there's too much water under the bridge—not to mention too much lingering attraction.

But it seems that the mountain weather has other ideas, and when Kara and Jason end up snowbound together they are forced to confront the ghosts of Christmas past.

Between the covers…

Old Man Winter huffed and puffed, rattling the doors of the Greene Summit Resort. Kara Jameson turned her back on the dark, blustery night. She didn't relish heading out into the declining weather to navigate her way home after a very long day at work.

She took a moment to admire the massive evergreen standing in the lobby of what had once been one of Pennsylvania's premier ski destinations. The twinkling white lights combined with the sparkling green and red decorations would normally fill her with holiday cheer, but not tonight. Not even the rendition of "Jingle Bells" playing softly in the background could tempt her to hum along.

The resort had been sold. The somber thought weighed heavily on her shoulders. It didn't help that rumors were running rampant that all the management positions were being replaced.

Why did it have to happen with Christmas only a few weeks away?

Everything will work out. Everything will work out. She repeated the mantra over and over in her mind, anxious to believe the old adage. But something in her gut said nothing would ever be the same again.

"Kara?"

The deep baritone voice came from behind her. She froze. Her gaze remained locked on a red bell-shaped ornament as her mind processed the sound. Even in the two syllables of her name, she knew that voice, knew the way her name rolled off his tongue as sweet as candy.

Jason Smith.

It couldn't be. He'd sworn he would never come back.

"Kara, won't you even look at me?"

Jennifer Faye is a two-time RT Book Reviews TOP PICK author. Maybe that’s partly due to the fact that she has spent most of her life with her nose in one book or another. Refusing to give up on her dreams, she finally succeeded in getting her name on a book cover. She currently resides in Pennsylvania with her very, very patient husband, one amazing daughter (the other remarkable daughter has flown the coop to chase her own dreams) and two spoiled rotten cats. EXCERPT/ CHARACTER INTERVIEW: Command Performance Sara Jane Stone

Exclusive Excerpt Only on Riverina Romantics from
 COMMAND PERFORMANCE
by Sara Jane Stone

“Are you ready for us, Ms. Barlow?”

Maggie plastered a serious expression on her face and gripped the sides of the podium. “Yes, please come in.”

Three men, all over fifty if they were even that young, filed into the room and took their seats. Not one of them offered an introduction or a handshake. They assumed she knew who they were, which she did, and that was fine with her. She preferred thinking of them as the pointy-nose general, the stone-faced one, and the pudgy one.

The stone-faced man closest to the podium looked up at her. “We’re expecting two more.”

As if on cue, the door creaked open.

“Ms. Barlow, this is Lieutenant Colonel Walt Johnson from Fort Campbell in Tennessee, and Chief Warrant Officer Hunter Cross from the Army Ranger’s 75th Division. Provided we like what we hear today, Chief Cross will act as your liaison while you conduct your interviews.”

The trailer door closed behind the man who’d knelt between her spread legs and given her the most powerful orgasm of her life. Hunter. Maggie’s face burned and her knees turned to noodles.

“Ms. Barlow,” Hunter said, his eyes wide with surprise and something else she couldn’t quite read.

Dear God, that voice sent shock waves through her body down to her core, and a place deep inside her that had no business attending a meeting in her conservative suit melted. Then she came crashing back to reality.

Hunter, her one-night stand, was her Army liaison? This man, who’d spent Saturday night fulfilling her sexual fantasies, held the key to her success?

Oh, hell. Oh, holy crap.

Maggie closed her eyes and took a deep breath in through her nose and out through her mouth. He wouldn’t say a word. Not Hunter, the man who held doors and pulled out chairs. The man she’d met at the car show would never open his mouth and say, “Hey Maggie, thanks for Saturday night. I hope you got all the orgasms you needed.” No, he would not do that.

She hoped. She prayed.

But he didn’t need to say anything to throw her off her presentation. Just the sight of him made her think of sex. Okay, so she wouldn’t look at him. She’d pretend he wasn’t there. She could do this. She had to do this. If she ran out of the trailer now, she’d never get another meeting with these men.

Opening her eyes, Maggie plastered a serious smile on her face, not too big or too charming, but just enough so that she did not appear combative. Gripping the sides of the podium, she waited for Chief Hunter Cross and Lieutenant Colonel what’s- his-name to take their seats. Then she looked down at the podium and began the most important presentation of her career.

Subject: Chief Warrant Officer  Hunter Cross

Mission: Keep Margaret Barlow distracted…using any means necessary!

Ranger Hunter Cross is the army poster child—excitement, danger and no strings in sight. And he's been in town exactly three hours before a curvy blonde named Maggie flashes him a look that says "You belong in my bed." It's a night of wicked satisfaction. And it's a night they can never repeat….

All Professor Maggie Barlow wanted was an orgasm—or three— from the dead-sexy Ranger. Having him as her official army  liaison while she works on her new book? That wasn't in the  plan. Especially when she learns that Hunter has orders to "control" her. Little does the army know that when it comes  to their deliciously naughty nighttime activities, Hunter is at Maggie's complete command….

Uniformly Hot!  The Few. The Proud. The Sexy as Hell.

Sara Jane: I recently sat down again with the heroine of COMMAND PERFORMANCE, Maggie Barlow.  I spent many long months with her, but now that I’ve moved on to other projects, it was great to catch up and take another look at her thoughts on her journey down the road to happy-ever-after.

Sara Jane: Maggie!  I’ve missed you.  It seems like just yesterday I was typing “the end” on the first draft of your story while on hospital bed rest awaiting the birth of my daughter.  Many sleepless nights (thanks to both you and my baby) and many revisions later, your story is finally on shelves and ereaders!  How does it feel?

Maggie: You know I like to be in control of everything.  And this?  Letting readers into my life—some of the most intimate and steamy moments of my life?  It makes me feel a little out of control to say the least.  But Hunter’s helping me relax.  At least, I was relaxed until I came here.  (She leans closer and drops her voice.)  You do know that there are some bestselling characters on Riverina Romantics.  To be featured on the same blog—it’s an honor for a debut heroine.  My nervous nelly hands are moving a mile a minute.  I mean, I’ve stood up in front of a room full of generals before and demanded they support my book.  But being here still makes me nervous.

Sara Jane: Speaking of generals, the exclsuive excerpt posted here is from that scene.

Maggie: Thank goodness!  I was afraid you were going to share a snippet from our first night together at the hotel, or from that time Hunter turned the tables on me and said it was time to explore his fantasies.  Or that time in Tennessee, when I thought for sure it was our last night together and Hunter—

Sara Jane:  Careful, you don’t want to give away too much!  After reading the excerpt, I bet readers are curious about what drove you to pick up a man for one wild night of sex at a car show.

Maggie: After I caught my ex cheating, I naturally called Olivia, my best friend.  I expected her to show up with chocolate.  Instead, she brought heels I could barely walk in and dragged me to a car show.

Sara Jane:  Olivia dragged you?

Maggie:  Well, not exactly.  She made me realize that I was tired of being the girl who was too afraid to voice her desires.  So I decided to go after what I wanted—one night with a man who could make my sexual fantasies come true.  That first night with Hunter . . . he took control, allowing me to just be and feel.  It was just what I needed from a one-night stand.

Sara Jane:  But not what you were looking for in your Army-issued liaison?

Maggie:  No.  When it comes to my work, I’m a total control-freak.  And this book?  It had the potential to take my career to news levels, including a tenured position.  After my unstable childhood with my alcoholic father, I needed the stability that promotion would provide.  But then Hunter stared trying to “control” the message of my book and as you can imagine that caused some problems.

Sara Jane:  It didn’t help that you couldn’t keep your hands off each other.

Maggie:  I hold you responbile for that.  After that first night when he promised to teach me things that would blow my fantasies out of the water, I couldn’t stop thinking about what would happen if I let him.

Sara Jane: And did he?  Blow your fantasies away?

Maggie:  I guess you’ll have to read and find outJ

You can buy Command Performance, here.

The King of Demons and the Devil’s right hand man, Asmodeus is a dark angel born of evil and created for destruction. When his master orders him to venture into the mortal world and retrieve a female for him, he seizes the chance to leave Hell for the first time, uncaring of what the Devil has planned for her… until he sets eyes on the most beautiful woman he has ever seen—a female who awakens new feelings within his black heart, unleashing passion so intense that it controls him and desire he cannot resist.

He will not let his wretched master have her. She will belong to him.

A mission gone wrong sees her sent to Paris to cool off, but when a dark and deadly warrior with a gaze of golden fire lands in her life, she ends up burning hotter than Hell for the wicked angel. Her Wicked Angel is available from Amazon Kindle, Kobo Books, Barnes and Noble Nook, Apple iBooks stores and many other retailers. Also available in paperback. Find the links to your preferred retailer at: http://www.felicityheaton.co.uk/ebooks.php?title=Her%20Wicked%20Angel

Asmodeus rested his elbows on the black railing behind him, tilted his head right back and stared at the colourful cloud-strewn sky, trying to figure out why he had received a hard slap as payment for protecting her from the male.

He wanted to understand this world and the protocols, and somehow find a way to learn the right reactions to situations.

He didn’t want to scare her away.

His senses shifted entirely to her, locked and focused, feeling her close beside him, her power wrapping around him like warm arms. She had felt soft and light when he had carried her, warm against his flesh. She had stared at him until he had been intensely aware of her gaze on his face.

On his lips.

He had wanted to kiss her.

He still wanted to even though she was full of light and purity, and she was so warm and friendly, filled with beautiful concern about everyone. Even strangers.

Even him.

He had never witnessed such good in anyone before.

It left him feeling there really was no good in him and made him wish more than ever that there were.

He had told her that he was evil and she had seen the darkness in him, the violence he was quick to embrace and the cruelty, but she had remained with him, asking him to take her somewhere else, somewhere quieter.

He had expected her to leave and she had wanted him to stay.

He didn’t understand her at all.

Asmodeus raised his left hand above him, stretched his fingers out with his palm facing the sky, and stared at it.

He had told her that he had no friends and she had held this hand, squeezing it against the railing and showing him compassion. Why?

There was no room for friendship in his life. It was a weakness. Good was a weakness. Affection was a sin. Compassion and care were flaws.

So why did he want to feel these things?

He didn’t. He clenched his teeth and his fingernails transformed into sharp black claws and his fangs lengthened. He had no weakness. No soft emotions to leave him open to attack. No vulnerabilities.

He felt Liora’s gaze on him and ignored her, struggling with his feelings and trying to subdue them again. He was wasting time here. He should take her down to the Devil and be done with it. All he was doing was worsening the punishment his master would deal when he returned with her, and he would return with her. The Devil would see to that.

He was weak.

Vulnerable.

Unable to fight his master’s orders.

The Devil had absolute power over him and eventually he would tire of waiting and command him to return, and Asmodeus would not be strong enough to fight that order.

“How long have you had Romulus and Remus?” Liora’s tone was soft and soothing, calming the growing tempest within him until it subsided and he forgot his fear and lowered his gaze to her.

New fear grew in its place.

He had never talked about himself to anyone before. No one had ever wanted to know about him, but she was genuinely interested and for some reason he was finding it hard to deny her. It was strange to talk to her about his life. Strange and dangerous.

It left him feeling uncertain and more on edge than the males who loitered in the square and were potentially a threat to her.

If she knew the things he had done and the person he was, she wouldn’t want to know about him anymore.

“Several centuries.” He kept his response short and before she could ask another question, he changed tactics on her. “Have you been a witch all your life?”

This was new to him too. He had never wanted to know about anyone before, but he wanted to know all about her.

She nodded, her chestnut waves bouncing against her shoulders. “Ever since I was born. I’ve lived with a coven the whole time.”

The area began to empty, the single males dwindling in number and the couples moving away into darker corners. Asmodeus tried not to look at them as they embraced or kissed.

Liora ran her fingers along the metal railing and her arm brushed his, sending a thousand volts jolting up it and through his body. His gaze whipped around to her and found her looking out at the city, not at him. He could have sworn she had been watching him a second ago.

“Are you as powerful as Serenity… or less powerful?” He couldn’t resist turning her earlier question against her, or staring at her. The streetlights illuminated her face, softening her features further. Her beauty entranced him.

She smiled, rosy lips curling slowly into it, and a light entered her eyes, a twinkle that he knew he had put there. He had never made anyone smile like that before and he found he liked it and wanted to make it happen again. He just wasn’t sure how. He had zero experience of being amusing or entertaining, unless you were the Devil. He could entertain his master no end by torturing demons for his viewing pleasure.

Asmodeus didn’t think that would entertain or amuse Liora.

“More powerful,” she echoed his earlier words and he found himself smiling at her.

Liora turned to face him, her left arm remaining leaning against the black railing, and held her right hand out in front of her.

She snapped her fingers and a glowing black rose made of light appeared in her hand.

She held it out to him and when he went to take it, she evaded his hand and brushed the soft warm petals over his bare chest. His heart thudded hard and the smile that had been working its way onto his lips dropped away. The air around him sizzled and the awareness of Liora he felt at times came back full force, flowing through him like electricity, coursing through his blood and making him hot all over.

Liora looked up at him, the action of tilting her head back causing her lips to part invitingly.

Asmodeus swallowed and fought the dark instinct to claim those lips and devour them.

Unless she wanted him to kiss her.

Was that possible? He had studied the couples in the area, and how they courted with smiles and laughter, and light touches that seem designed to arouse and excite the interest of their partner.

He wanted to kiss her.

No good would come of it though. It would only increase his desire to keep her from the Devil and fight his master’s orders, and it would only cut him when he failed and delivered her to that wretched male.

The black rose disappeared and her hand settled against his bare chest. It was shaking. She was nervous too, afraid of whatever this was that zinged between them whenever they were close.

Asmodeus raised his hand to cover hers and froze when a shiver bolted down his spine, hot and fierce, and the ground trembled.

“Conceal yourself,” he barked and she stared blankly at him. He cursed and cast a veil over her, and pushed her behind him at the same time, shielding her with his body and his black wings in case his spell failed.

A bright orange spot formed on the pale stone slabs before him and then forked outwards into a glowing fault line. The ground trembled again and the fiery line cracked open, becoming a fissure. Steam and smoke rose from it and the mortals in the area screamed and ran.

Liora shook beneath his hand that clutched her wrist but he could feel her power rising, growing in the face of her fear.

A Hell’s angel burst from the earth and beat his crimson wings.

COVER REVEAL/ EXCERPT/ GIVEAWAY: Beyond Repair by Chelsea Camaron

I'm very excited to share this exciting cover reveal for the third book in the amazing Daddy's Girl series by Chelsea Camaron.

Book Blurb

Harrison and Tiffany have a long history of hooking up. Harrison decides he wants more. Tiffany, a spoiled Southern Belle is embarrassed by a working class Harrison. After over two years apart Tiffany is missing his touch. She heads to Charlotte to claim her man.

Harrison is finally settled in Charlotte. He has a job he loves, his sister close by, great friends, and an awesome agreement going with Sophia.

Can Sophia ever want more from Harrison than just sex? Has Harrison fallen in love or just lust with Sophia?

After all this time and hurt feelings, is he really meant to be with Tiffany? Can Harrison manage to let his guard down and find his way back to Tiffany?

Will Tiffany be satisfied with a regular working class mechanic? Or is their relationship in the past and beyond repair?

The ride to the funeral home is one in silence. I need to get myself under control. Pride overtook my self-control back there. I never should’ve let Tiffany’s dad rile me like that. That was not the time, not the place, and certainly not the way I needed to react to his goading.

We arrive at Tiffany’s condo. Both of us exhausted with the emotions of the day evident in our somber expressions. I need to figure out when I’m returning to Charlotte. With Brayden and Maggie away on their honeymoon, I’m sure Ryder and Jake are drowning in work. I don’t want to leave Tiffany feeling alone, but my life is in Charlotte now.

“Tiff, do you need anything tonight?” I ask, looking for a general conversation with her.

“No, Harrison, I don’t need anything.” She whispers.

She’s so broken now, lost almost. Can she handle this loss? Matt always told me she wasn’t as strong as she seemed. He always said she was fragile, like glass, and needed to be handled with care. He was always worried that one day she would be too lost, gone, beyond repair.

As much as I need to return to Charlotte, now is not the time to drop this bit of news on her. We both escape the silence to change into more comfortable clothes. In her guest room, I’m feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders. Now in sweats and a t-shirt, I go in search of her.

As I approach her bedroom door, I can hear the sounds of her crying. Instead of knocking, I enter. She’s sitting on her bed. She’s wearing yoga pants and a tank top, holding a stuffed tiger tight to her chest while sobbing into it. Without a word, I sit on her bed, pulling her into me. We sit there for a while, her crying, me gently rocking her. Exhaustion overtaking, I pull us both back onto the bed. It wasn’t long before we were both soundly sleeping, me on my back, Tiffany in my arms, draped across my chest, clutching her tighter.

COVER REVEAL/ EXCERPT/ GIVEAWAY: Salvaged by Chelsea Camaron

I'm very excited to share this exciting cover reveal for the second book in the amazing Daddy's Girl series by Chelsea Camaron.

Book Blurb

Brayden and Maggie have been dating for four years. Maggie is ready and expecting an engagement ring. Brayden has a past full of weaknesses and mistakes he can’t seem to shake. As he slowly loses everything, he also loses Maggie.

As his world unravels, can he find the strength to shake his inner demons? Does he have it in him to face the ghosts of his past? Can Maggie overcome his deceptions? Will they find a way to love and trust again? Can their love and relationship be salvaged?

We arrive in Miami, check into our hotel, and immediately decide to check out the Miami night life.

Wearing a barely there silver, backless, halter dress and heels I was ready to dance the night away. At five foot seven inches with my heels, my legs are going on for miles tonight. I put my hair in a loose up do, frame my eyes with a smoky shadow, and add a clear lip gloss to finalize my look.

Brayden is dressed in his typical baggy jeans and t-shirt. He is six foot tall, more of a lanky build with a slight beer belly forming, which is especially noticeable when he stands next to a very toned and muscular Ryder. His dirty blonde hair and crystal blue eyes, which hold such depth they make me melt every time he looks at me. We both love to go out. We met four years ago at a bar in Charlotte while we were both celebrating another finished semester of college. We arrive at Cameo nightclub in downtown Miami and immediately hit the dance floor. There is something about the atmosphere of a club that just takes over my senses. The bodies pressed together, each finding their own rhythm as the vibrations from the bass reverberates through the crowd.

Having Brayden up against my back side running his hands all over my body as we move to the music is enough to bring my nipples to attention rubbing against the thin scrap of fabric, otherwise known as my dress. His hands roam, as we dance, moving the back of my barely there dress over the hills of my ass, leaving me exposed. My bare backside now grinding against the erection of his jeans is delightful friction. He then places one hand upon my breast and begins to tease it, while he plunges two fingers, from the other, into my hot core. I am so turned on I don’t care who sees me. When I am almost ready to explode, he stops.

Grabbing me, he leads me to a back hallway, where he quickly pushes me up against the wall, freeing himself and pounding into me. Raw, needing passion, transfers between us as I have an earth shattering orgasm. Brayden follows right behind me. As we straighten ourselves, he smiles and whispers, “I love that you never wear panties, baby.”

But, can she ever feel safe with a man again? Ryder has restored hundreds of classic cars can he restore Dina’s heart?

Dina

By the next day, Maggie seems much better. After work I am relaxing in a bubble bath with my Jacuzzi tub jets running when my phone rings. It is Ryder.

"Hey, misterman." I answer.

"Hello, beautiful! It’s good to hear your voice after phone tag yesterday. What are you doing this evening?"

Well, we are on the phone and I am feeling brave so I answer in almost a whisper, "I am in the bath tub, covered in nothing but bubbles, relaxing, thinking of how I wish it were you covering me instead."

He is quiet for a moment. I think I hear a low growl from him.

With his voice deeper than I have ever heard before, "Damn, Dina you are killing me over here. Oh how I wish I was there. I would be happy to wash your back for you."

I smile and add, "Just my back, huh, what about my front?"

I hear him groan, "Oh baby, you don't want to start something, you can't finish."

I stay quiet for just a brief moment, "Ryder, I will be glad to start and finish anything with you, anytime, anywhere. The question is am I what you really want?"

There I said it, now am I really ready for an answer?

He then shocks me to my core with his admission, "Dina, it’s been you and only you I have wanted since the first night I met you at the restaurant. Since the night we found you at the bottom of the stairs, when I beat the shit out of that bastard, I haven't been with anyone. I have been waiting for you to get over that situation and feel comfortable and safe again."

He pauses and sighs, but continues, "Dina, you are one of a kind special. I am far from a perfect man, I am not even a good man, but for you and because of you I want to be. I have treated women wrong in the past; I have used them, lead them on, and dumped them in some harsh ways. I have never laid a hand on a woman, but I have left some completely and unintentionally broken, and for that I am sorry. I don't want to lead you on or treat you wrong. I want to be your safe place, Dina. I never want to see you sad, or hurt. I want to hold you close and call you mine in all ways for always. Baby, I have messed up big time in my past and I am paying for it even now. I don't deserve someone as strong and beautiful as you. I have tried to stay away from you, but you just draw me in. When you look at me, I feel like you can see the potential and goodness inside me. One kiss from you, is enough to make me weak in the knees. Dina, I want to see what we can make of the electricity between us.”

He sighs, “I wish I was there, I didn't want to do this by phone."

I take a moment because I don't know what to say. Finally, I stammer through, "Ryder, you mean so much to me. You saved me when I was at my lowest. I want to see what we can make of us. I won't lie, I am scared, but I trust you with my insecurities. I trust you with every part of me. My body craves your touch, Ryder; my mind craves your conversation, and my heart craves your safety. I trust you, Ryder, to help restore me." I hear a voice in the background, then Ryder says, "Oh baby you have just made the whole situation here so much better. I would love nothing more than to tell you exactly how I would wash every inch of your body, but I have to go, I am needed. I will call you tomorrow. I will see you as soon as I can get back home and we will make this work, Goodnight, my sunshine." Before I can respond, he is gone.

SPOTLIGHT: Love at High Tide by Christi Barth

Love at High Tide

Book Blurb

Darcy Trent is lucky Cooper Hudson is on hand to sweep her off her feet—literally—when she nearly drowns while swimming in the ocean. But life-saving aside, Mr. Perfect's timing stinks: Darcy's career is about to take her to the complete opposite side of the Atlantic. Still, a little summer loving with the tall, blond and sexy former cop is far too tempting to pass up.

When his plans to enter the Secret Service went south thanks to a bum knee, Coop retreated to the family beach house to mull his future. Romance is the last thing on his mind, until he fishes a curvy brunette out of the sea. Now, spending time in Darcy's arms seems like the ideal distraction, even if it is just for a week.

But with Darcy's departure date fast approaching and their careers on the line, can they realize in time that their beach fling might become the real thing?

“Thanks for the rescue. If you hadn’t grabbed me, I’d still be doing somersaults underwater. In my book, that qualifies you for hero status.”

An unreadable emotion flickered across his eyes so fast she almost missed it. In a low mutter, he said, “Don’t call me a hero.” He hit the hard-packed sand at the edge of the water and stopped walking.

Modest, heroic and gorgeous. And it didn’t take even a fraction of her eight years of training in cultural anthropology to figure out he was attracted to her. They’d long since hit land, and yet he made no move to put her down. Not that she was complaining. She’d happily continue to sit cradled in his arms. It gave her an up-close view of his chiseled cheekbones, sharp enough to etch glass. Her fingers brushed through the salt-spiked tips of his blond hair. No doubt about it: she’d found the man candy Trina had promised. One bite of him would be as sinful and addictive as a chocolate honey truffle.

“Well, I can’t call you Mr. In-The-Right-Place-At-The-Right-Time.” When his lips curled up showing off his dimple, Darcy’s interest kicked up a notch.

“Good point. I’m Cooper Hudson. Coop, to my friends.”

“Darcy Trent.”

“It’s been a long time since I met an ocean virgin.”

“Oh, but only in the aquatic sense, I assure you.” What? Why wave her long-vanished virginity under his nose? Now he probably thought she had the morals of an alley cat. But hearing the hottest man she’d ever seen use the word virgin threw her for a loop. Not the standard nice-to-meet-you conversation, by a long shot.

He flashed an easy smile. “Don’t worry. I hadn’t planned on delivering you as a virgin sacrifice to appease the volcano gods over at the mini-golf course.”

Okay, now Darcy could add funny to the list of his overwhelming awesomeness. Maybe she really had blacked out and was hallucinating her ideal man while unconscious, underwater. What else could explain such perfection?

“Darcy, what happened?” Trina’s yell preceded her appearance in front of them. After a quick yank upward to her scrap of a top, she rested her hand on Darcy’s leg. “Why’s he carrying you? Did you get stung in the foot by a jellyfish? ’Cause if you did, I’ll pee on it. That’ll take the sting away.”

That certainly settled the whole am-I-hallucinating question. Never, ever would Darcy fantasize about her best friend peeing on her. The situation had to be real. And if Trina in all her adorable annoyingness was real, then her hot hero hunk had to be real, too.

To her dismay, Cooper lowered her to the ground.

“Your friend’s fine,” Cooper announced. “A wave almost rolled her, so she’s a little shaken up, but uninjured.”

“You keep your distance,” Darcy warned with a hand raised to keep Trina at arm’s length. “Don’t even think about peeing on me. Not even if I get attacked by an entire school of jellyfish.”

Trina wrinkled her nose. “Okay, but if the situation arises, just remember that I would be willing to make that sacrifice.”

“Friendship is a beautiful thing.” Cooper’s sardonic tone belied the sincerity of his expression.
